Y Tu Mama Tambien - Oh Mama What A Mess!
by Tallulah Givehead

Quote 'A steamy Mexican road movie with a now legendary diving board scene that can't be missed, plenty of full-frontal nudity and a naked same-sex kiss that will blow you away.' un-quote. Did I see the same movie as everyone else? This movie was marketed heavily to us gay folks, and yet, this is one of the most homophobic movies I've seen in my life! The one and only time we see the guys kiss (it's only hinted there was a night of debauchery) is followed by one of them vomiting Y Tu Mama Tambien(ostensibly from over-indulgence) and then the break-up of their friendship. What message does this send? A message of intolerance. If this trash is in your movie collection, Ta recommends putting it where all trash goes!

And don't get Ta started on the tragic excuse for an actor that Diego Luna is. His low-level acting skills - if y'all want to give him that much credit - barely register in this movie ... nor has he done any better in his subsequent movies.

Tenoch and Julio (Gael Garcia Bernal), Mexico City teenagers and best friends, are living quite the carefree life while their girlfriends travel out of the country: smoking dope, mooching drinks at political functions, and masturbating the summer away (the diving board scene will knock your socks off). On a lark, they invite the beautiful, more mature Luisa (Mirabel Verdu) on a road trip to a secret beach that doesn't exist; when she surprisingly accepts, they set off on a slightly ridiculous journey that will change all of their lives. For Luisa, the trip will allow her to experience a life free of her philandering husband, while the boys naturally take turns trying to get into her pants. It has all the trappings of a teen comedy (and comes complete with profane humor and a requisite cum shot), but this intimately insightful film delves much deeper, especially into the strains that sexuality places on friends who share everything.

MGM Anamorphic format Deleted scenes and special featurettes.
