A Touch of Pink
by Tallulah

Another very
similarly-themed movie that Ah enjoyed is the
much-more-recent
Touch of Pink, Alim (Jimi
Mistry) is a South Asian-Canadian gay man living
in London with his handsome boyfriend Giles (Kristen
Holden-Reid).
All hell breaks
loose for the cross-cultural couple when Alim's
traditional mother Nuru (a scenery-chewing
Suleka Mathews) announces a visit, setting off a
frantic
Wedding Banquet-esque series of events, from
hiding all gay paraphernalia to having Giles' sister
pose as Alim's fiance. Yet despite Alim's efforts,
the rubber band snaps and the truth emerges.

Having
alienated both his mother and Giles in the process
of coming out, Alim follows the former home to
Toronto, where even more dramatic antics involving a
closeted, frisky friend and a big fat Indian wedding
await. Adding to the chaos and amusement is
Kyle MacLachlan as Cary Grant, who serves as
Alim’s chatty, charming, and imaginary, confidant.
